Course Description:

This course provides an opportunity for students to apply classroom and laboratory skills to actual work experiences. Supervised work experience enhances knowledge and provides experience within the agriculture industry.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Apply technical skills needed in the agribusiness industry.
    1. Demonstrate proper safety management techniques used in the agribusiness industry.
    2. Demonstrate operations of current technology being used in the industry.
    3. Explain how to access information resources needed to solve specific field crop production problems.
  2. Perform responsibilities for the current season as related to agribusiness.
    1. Practice common maintenance tasks involved with agribusiness.
    2. Demonstrate pest and disease management for an agribusiness.
  3. Practice proper care and safety techniques related to agribusiness.
    1. Explain hazards related to production agriculture.
    2. Demonstrate safety practices when working in agribusiness.
    3. Use Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards as related to working with agriculture production.
  4. Apply the broad sciences of botany, climatology, genetics, entomology, and pathology to situations that are intrinsically related to agribusiness.
    1. Demonstrate plant identification and procedures necessary for successful growth of plants.
    2. Diagnose common pests of plant production and use methods of control.
  5. Describe agribusiness problems as related to the environment.
    1. Describe adequate and economical housing used for production agriculture.
    2. Describe methods of handling production wastes that reduce environmental pollution, within the guidelines of current laws and regulations.
    3. Explain current practices relating to environmental conditions in production agriculture.

The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

90 100 = A
80 89 = B
70 79 = C
0 69 = F
