Course Description:

This course provides an opportunity for students to apply and combine classroom and laboratory knowledge to actual work experiences. Its focus is a supervised work experience for students to gain knowledge and experience within the horticulture industry.

Measurable Performance Objectives (MPOs):

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Apply technical skills needed in the horticulture industry based on placement setting.
    1. Demonstrate proper safety management techniques used in the horticulture industry.
    2. Assess how current technology impacts the day-to-day operations of horticulture business.
    3. Select information resources needed to solve specific horticultural crop production problems.
  2. Perform responsibilities for the current season as related to the horticulture industry.
    1. Practice common maintenance tasks involved with horticulture.
    2. Manage pests and diseases found in the turf industry.
    3. Operate equipment safely within the placement setting.
    4. Select proper care and maintenance techniques of horticulture plant production.
  3. Use construction and installation techniques as related to the horticulture industry
    1. Implement a landscape plan.
    2. Practice skills necessary to condition and prepare soils for plant materials.
    3. Demonstrate care and maintenance of establishing turfgrass.
  4. Employ irrigation systems used in the horticulture industry.
    1. Practice proper irrigation methods as related to the horticulture industry.
    2. Operate remote control valves and automatic controllers.
Evaluation Criteria/Policies:

Students must demonstrate proficiency on all CCPOs at a minimal 75 percent level to successfully complete the course. The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

92 100 = A
83 91 = B
75 82 = C
0 74 = F
