Course Number and Title: AUT 202 Automotive Engine Repair
This course introduces various automotive engines and related components, their operations and service and repair procedures. Laboratory activities include hands-on exercises on trainer/dead engines relating to the operation, servicing, and repair of the engines as well as related engine systems: cooling, lubrication, exhaust, and related systems. Students also perform live engine evaluation and diagnosis.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Demonstrate safety with specialized equipment.
- Demonstrate proper use of special tools for measuring, disassembly, and assembly of engines during service and repair.
- Analyze engine designs and functions.
- List and classify the various engine types, and describe their operation.
- Identify and list the various internal engine components, and describe their functions.
- Perform measurements on various engine components to determine proper wear limits and the proper service needed.
- Describe and list the use of various fasteners, gaskets, and sealants used in the different manufactured vehicles.
- Identify and use appropriate information sources (electronic, and/or printed) to perform proper engine repairs.
- Assemble and disassemble engines.
- Disassemble an engine to basic components using the manufacturer’s specific procedures.
- Identify and use proper measuring tools to inspect and measure engine components for wear and failure.
- Perform all necessary reconditioning services as needed.
- Reassemble engine using the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Adhere to simulated shop procedures.
- Follow simulated shop rules for proper attire, including eye protection.
- Exhibit punctuality in a simulated shop lab.
- Check out, maintain, and return tools to simulate real shop practices.
- Perform the strategy-based diagnostic procedure to 100% proficiency.
- Work cooperatively in assigned teams as in a real shop atmosphere.
- Use the time clock to show time management skills as needed in a real shop.
- Follow simulated shop rules and procedures for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, material safety data sheet (MSDS), and material handling.
Students must demonstrate proficiency on all CCPOs at a minimal 75 percent level to successfully complete the course. The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

- Complete the repair
- Employ proper automotive industry service facility safety practices.
- Practice professional conduct as required in the automotive industry.
