Course Description:

This course, a continuation of Clinical Internship II, provides additional development of applicable skills through more independent work and measures proficiency in cardiovascular sonographic procedures.

Measurable Performance Objectives (MPOs):

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Demonstrate and evaluate continuing competencies as outlined in previous internship objectives to develop independent practice in a clinical setting.
    1. In a clinical setting, perform with proficiency various ultrasound procedures as outlined in previous internship objectives.
    2. Comply with college, program, and clinical affiliates’ policies.
    3. Conduct with competency 2D echocardiograms with M-mode and color/Doppler evaluation using real-time ultrasound equipment.
    4. Conduct with competency scans of extremity arteries, extremity veins, cerebrovasculature, and abdominal vasculature using real-time ultrasound or physiological equipment.
  2. Value being an integral team member in the healthcare delivery system.
    1. Demonstrate appropriate interaction skills with the interpreting physician and other healthcare professionals in a clinical setting.
    2. Value and demonstrate professional and ethical behaviors.

  3. Explain and educate other healthcare providers and the public on the appropriate applications of sonographic evaluation.
    1. Explain the procedure briefly and clearly to the patient.
    2. Explain the appropriate applications of ultrasound evaluation.
    3. Describe and educate other healthcare providers and the public on sonographic application both verbally and in written form.
  4. Perform the diagnostic medical sonographic procedures independently within the plan of care and scope of responsibility.
    1. Formulate and assist in the coordination of a plan of action, and follow it to perform diagnostic medical sonographic procedure and other tests.
    2. Identify and prioritize any problems that occur.
    3. Predict the consequences of possible solutions.
    4. Evaluate pertinent information to solve the problems.
Evaluation Criteria/Policies:

Students must demonstrate proficiency on all CCPOs at a minimal 75 percent level to successfully complete the course. The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

92 100 = A
83 91 = B
75 82 = C
0 74 = F
