Course Description:

This course is designed to enable the participant to focus on a special topics related to curriculum, instructional design, and/or educational technology. All special topics must be approved by the Director of CCIT prior to enrolling/registering in this course. Participants will focus on advance educational topics, not covered in our current course Instructional Design and Technology Certificate course offerings. Participants may take this course a maximum of twice, with an approved change of topic for each instance.

Measurable Performance Objectives (MPOs):

Upon completion of this course, the student will:

  1. Investigate advanced special topics related to instructional design, educational technology, and curriculum.
    1. Define instructional design and identify the characteristics of instructional design systems.
    2. Compare and contrast various instructional theories.
  2. Compose a white paper on the approved special topic.
    1. Compare and contrast various fact-based theories related to the special topic.
    2. Critique scholarly articles related to the special topic.
  3. Design and develop a workshop on the approved special topic.
    1. Construct learning objectives and assessment items based on Bloom’s taxonomy.
    2. Interpret learning characteristics utilized by the target audience.
    3. Assess the impact of technology and technical issues in the learning environment.
  4. Teach a workshop on the approved special topic.
    1. Apply effective instructional strategies for Gagne’s categories of learning.
    2. Design activities that facilitate interaction (student-content, student-instructor, student-student and student-resources) appropriate to your workshop delivery method.
Evaluation Criteria/Policies:

Students must demonstrate proficiency on all CCPOs at a minimal 75 percent level to successfully complete the course. The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:

92 100 = A
83 91 = B
75 82 = C
0 74 = F

Students should refer to the Student Handbook for information on the Academic Standing Policy, the Academic Integrity Policy, Student Rights and Responsibilities, and other policies relevant to their academic progress.
