This is the second of two courses using an electronic medical record system for administrative duties for a medical assistant in a medical office. Topics include scheduling appointments, patient processing, diagnostic coding, procedural coding, health insurance, medical billing, patient accounts, collections, practice management, and banking procedures.

Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- Use applied mathematics in a medical office.
- Differentiate between normal and abnormal test results in an electronic medical record (EMR).
- Prepare lab test results using flow sheets in an EMR.
- Summarize a child’s height and weight on a growth chart in an EMR.
- Explain and reassure a patient of the accuracy of the test results.
- Demonstrate administrative functions for a medical office.
- Prepare an appointment schedule using established priorities in an EMR.
- Arrange a patient procedure in an EMR.
- Demonstrate how to create, organize, and file a patient’s medical record in an EMR.
- Use an EMR.
- Prepare and input patient data using a practice management system.
- Show sensitivity when managing appointments during a classroom simulation.
- Practice basic finance processes as required in a medical office.
- Demonstrate accounts receivable procedures to patient accounts in an EMR, including posting charges, payments, and adjustments.
- Prepare a bank deposit using an EMR.
- Collect accurate patient billing information.
- Explain and inform a patient of financial obligations for services rendered.
- Demonstrate sensitivity when requesting payment for services rendered.
- Demonstrate managed care/insurance processes as required in a medical office.
- Interpret information on an insurance card.
- Identify eligibility for services, including documentation.
- Demonstrate how to obtain precertification or preauthorization, including documentation.
- Prepare an insurance claim form in an EMR.
- Role play interacting professionally with third party representatives.
- Show tactful behavior when communicating with medical providers regarding third party requirements.
- Show sensitivity when communicating with patients regarding third party requirements.

Students must demonstrate proficiency on all CCPOs at a minimal 75 percent level to successfully complete the course. The grade will be determined using the Delaware Tech grading system:
